About Rotherham Crematorium
Rotherham crematorium (Also known as East Herringthorpe Crematorium) offers a peaceful location to pay your last respects. It is surrounded by East Herringthorpe cemetery and green fields.
The crematorium itself has one chapel which can accommodate up to 105 seated visitors (approximate). The old pews have been replaced by individual chairs.
The large balcony area can seat a further 47 (approximate). At the front of the balcony are large clear glass panels to allow a clear view to the main chapel area below. Please note if you are at the rear of the balcony you may have a restricted view.
The chapel provides a bright, modern and uplifting place to hold a funeral service. The large windows flood the chapel with light. The catafalque is located centrally at the front of the chapel, behind which is another large glass window. Family can choose to have the curtains closed or remain open at the end of the service.
The recent refurbishment looks very impressive. Clearly, a lot of thought has gone into offering visitors both a comfortable and elegant experience.
The decor and furnishings go well beyond the functional, it’s clear that Rotherham Crematorium wants to offer mourners the most pleasant experience during their time here. The newly decorated waiting rooms offer a calm, comfortable and quiet area in which to wait for a funeral service.
As you would expect of a modern chapel there is a speaker system and hearing loop. Screens are positioned in both the main chapel area and the balcony area for personal tributes (videos and images). As far as we know the service itself isn’t available for broadcast via these screens. There is a music system which is standard for modern crematoria. An organ is available should live music be required.
East Herringthorpe cemetery has been performing funerals since 1953, the crematorium was opened in 1962. Rotherham is a culturally diverse town and the facilities here cater to a wide range of faiths.
The grounds are a quiet place for family and friends to reflect. They are well maintained and at the time of writing they are being extended to offer a wider array of memorials. There is a memorial area dedicated to Normandy veterans and other who gave their service to the armed forces.
Disabled Access
The crematorium also has disabled access, disabled toilets and a hearing loop.
Rotherham Crematorium Parking
There are 100 parking spaces. As you enter the crematorium from Ridgeway Road follow the driveway through the cemetery and take the right turn as directed. There is a short walk from the car park to the main crematorium building.
