Your questions answered
What’s included in your low cost funeral price?
A low cost funeral in Grimsby is available with or without a service. A direct cremation costs £1,195 and a funeral with service costs from £1,868. Prices are kept low by not charging extra for the collection of the deceased or return of ashes which is done for free.
Does your price for direct cremation in Grimsby include an urn for the ashes?
The crematorium puts the ashes in paper bag which is then placed in a sturdy cardboard container. Urns, caskets and scatter tubes can be purchased at extra cost. If you would like us to transfer the ashes in to an urn you have purchased we are happy to do this for free for our customers. We understand that handling a loved ones ashes can be hard for many people.
We would like a low cost funeral with a service at Grimsby Crematorium. How much do you charge to design and print an order of service?
If you would like an order of service it’s something that you would need to provide yourself. There are many printing companies that would arrange this for you. We can place a copy on each chair before the service begins.
About Grimsby Crematorium
Grimsby Crematorium opened in 1954, it comprises a chapel and gardens of remembrance which cover nine acres. The chapel itself has a capacity of around 144 (the seating is not fixed) and should it be required there is extra capacity by way of a balcony and standing room. If needed mourners may listen to the service from outside.
Service Length
A typical service will run for 30 minutes with an additional allowance of 10 minutes to get attendees in and out the chapel. Mourners are taken in through the front entrance and leave through the back of the chapel which leads to the gardens of remembrance. This way mourners from the concluding service are not disturbing the mourners waiting for the next scheduled funeral. Grimsby Crematorium facilitates approximately 7 funerals per day – that’s around 1000 annually.
Almost all of the low cost funeral services that Simple Cremations perform at Grimsby Crematorium have a few pieces of music, usually a song is played as family and friends enter the chapel, another is played during the service and another to conclude the service as people leave. This isn’t always the case however, a funeral service can contain whatever the family wishes and be structured however they see fit.
The crematorium also has facilities to enable the service to be broadcast online or recorded and has screens if images or video media is to be played during the service.
Grimsby Crematorium Parking
Grimsby Crematorium car park is located opposite the main entrance and has 170 parking spaces including five disabled-only spaces. There is a vehicle entrance and exit in addition to pedestrian access. Parking is free. The carpark capacity was increased in January 2020 from 87 spaces.
It is hoped that the recent increase in capacity will reduce congestion which can occur when large numbers of mourners are present on and around the grounds. Weelsby Avenue often bears the brunt of this increase in traffic and presents safety concerns for the children attending Weelsby Academy. Issues with vehicles blocking access to local residents driveways has also been a reoccurring problem.
Scattering of ashes
If you would like the ashes of your loved one scattering on the grounds this can be done without an appointment, however if you would like an attended scattering an appointment would be needed.
