Hello, my name is Leanne Marsham. I worked in the hospital and public mortuaries for twenty years. I loved my job, it was incredibly interesting working closely with pathologists, coroners and emergency services and learning about the amazing intricacies of the human body – something which I’ve always had a particular interest in.

In 2009 I was given the additional responsibility of meeting with bereaved families. It soon became clear to me that there was an unnecessary stress being added to a number of these grieving families.

A question that arose time and time again…

How are we going to pay for the funeral?

This upset me more and more, the fact that there was no affordable alternative to the ever increasing fees of the funeral director.

So I decided to do something about it, I resigned from my job as Senior Anatomical Technologist – a job that I loved and set up Simple Cremations.

At Simple Cremations we have helped hundreds of families with free advice, honest prices and a personal service that we’re incredibly proud of.

Initially our intent was to provide direct cremations only, that is, funerals without a service. But it quickly became clear that, understandably, many people wanted a funeral service.

I began providing my own services as celebrant free of charge to our customers which continues to be very popular.

Although we knew there was a demand for affordable funerals both my husband and I were very surprised by just how quickly things took off!

The feedback from day one has always been really positive. It’s always sad when we see a family return to us for a second or third funeral but at the same time it tells us we’re doing something right.

Many of the families we perform funerals for don’t have the means to pay thousands for a funeral. But it would be a mistake to think that it’s only people who are struggling to pay for a funeral that use our services, it isn’t!

Our customers are incredibly diverse. There are lots of families who just don’t see the sense in spending thousands of pounds on a traditional funeral and we understand that.

The final thing a family can do for the one they’ve lost is to carry out their last wishes. Maybe they wanted a no fuss funeral or a simple intimate family funeral and it’s a real honour for us to be chosen to help make that happen.

We now provide our services, both direct cremation and low cost funerals with a service to all of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.
